Help Churches and Families Affected by Crisis in South Asia

Natural disasters, conflict, and other crises can leave churches and communities facing urgent needs with little warning. The Compassion South Asia fund helps ABWE and trusted Christian partners respond with practical care when needs arise across the region.

Right now, severe flash flooding and mudslides in northern Nepal have caused devastating loss of life and widespread destruction. Homes, churches, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed. Local Christian leaders report that several churches have been directly affected, with believers among those who have died or remain missing.

Ministry partners with longstanding relationships among local churches are closely following the situation and identifying how Christians can best serve affected families and communities. Because relief efforts must follow local government requirements, some funds may be reserved for needs that emerge after the initial emergency response, including helping churches and families recover and rebuild.

In Nepal, ministry partners are assessing both immediate and longer-term needs among affected churches, believers, and surrounding communities. As opportunities become available, assistance may include food and essential household supplies, medical needs, clothing and bedding, rebuilding materials, and other practical help for families and churches recovering from the disaster.

Our partners are committed to working carefully within local requirements while looking for appropriate opportunities to serve those who are suffering. As communities move from emergency response toward recovery, local believers will have opportunities to demonstrate the love of Christ through practical care and gospel witness.
