PlantCORK has been a burden on the hearts of local ministry workers for a long time. Several existing church plants in the area have been planted from mother churches such as Cork Baptist Church, founded in 1640. Yet none has been planted in the disadvantaged areas. Throughout central Cork City, and on the northern side of Cork City are at least 15 unique areas that are defined as economically significantly disadvantaged communities that include in excess of 100,000 people. The purpose of plantCORK is to build on the work developed by 20 Schemes in Scotland, that successfully have planted churches in such areas and work to adapt it to an Irish context.
