Meet the Pastor: Stephen (pseudonym)
I was fortunate to be born into a Christian family. When I was 11 years old, I began to pray to receive God so that He could come to rule and take control of my life. Before entering into service, I was a shy person, lacking confidence and not knowing what the purpose of life was. Although I have believed in God for many years, I have not really understood the meaning of dedicating my life to serving Him. When I was 16 years old, I joined the choir team for the local church where I saw the needs of the church such as needing more leaders, a guitar, finances to photocopy songs every week, etc. I began to pray for these problems and God showed me how to solve these problems through prayer. From then on, I knew God had called me to serve Him.
At the age of 20, I was once again reminded and urged by the sharing of a pastor about having to carry out the great commission in Matthew 28:19-20. At that time, I cherished and wished to be trained, coached to become someone who could go out and witness to others and guide others to become disciples of God. After a while, I began to look for a school to study and moved away from home to begin with God’s calling. As I obeyed and began to serve, I experienced the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Despite many difficulties, I saw clearly that God used my weakness to accomplish a greater work than I thought.
Through serving in the ministry, I learned obedience, humility, and dependence on God each day. God does not look for the qualified, He looks for those who are willing. I see myself growing, not just in my service to Him, but also in my character, my family, and my relationship with others.
