A church with more people than seats
Alcalá de Henares is a city of 200,000 in the Madrid region, and fewer than one percent
of the people there know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Alcalá de Henares Evangelical
Baptist Church is one of the few places in the city where they can hear the gospel. On Sunday
mornings it is full — so full that the church now holds two morning services because more
people are coming than the building can seat at once.
Twenty years of patient work
ABWE missionaries Rich and Cindy Brown planted the church in 2003 and gave three decades to
Spain before retiring. Miguel Ángel Pozo and his wife, Rebeca, joined the ministry in 2013,
and the church installed Miguel Ángel as pastor in November 2020. The congregation has grown
steadily under his leadership.
That growth shows up in ordinary things — marriage seminars, Bible courses, members
learning to teach and to serve their neighbors. It also shows up in a problem the church is glad
to have. The space that once fit them no longer does.
What your gift does
The church is asking God for a larger facility in Alcalá de Henares: a building with room
for one congregation to worship together, and room for the teaching, counseling, and outreach that
its current space cannot hold. A larger building is not the goal. It is what the next twenty years
of gospel work in this city will be built on.
Spanish believers are leading this. Their pastor, Miguel Ángel Pozo, asks two things of
you: pray that God provides the right building, and prayerfully consider whether he would have you
give toward it.
Give today to help the church in Alcalá de Henares find a home large enough for
the people God keeps sending.
