Hola! We are the Gomez family, serving in Mexico.
Kurt, a native to Mexico, grew up in a nominal Catholic home where God was just a vague tradition passed down generationally. It wasn't until some ABWE missionaries came to his neighborhood in Mexico City and invited his family to a new church-plant Bible study, that they were exposed to the truth of the gospel.
Kurt felt it was urgent to tell others about the same good news which he had accepted. He became burdened to prepare for a life of serving God and through the mentoring of his pastor, he prepared to serve vocationally at the Biblical Seminary of Puebla.
He is passionate about teaching, preaching, building relationships in evangelism & discipleship and growing local believers in the body of Christ. After serving in camp ministry and local church-planting in Mexico, Kurt & Bethany took a “pause” in order for Kurt to become a US citizen. God has graciously used Kurt these years in their sending church, First Baptist of Grove City, PA.
Bethany grew up in a family with parents strongly committed to Christ. As a young kid, she made a confession of faith in Jesus as her Savior, and as a teen, her faith in Christ grew deeply through short-term missions exposure. Bethany remembers an unshakable burden to use her life for the sake of the gospel, even as an early teen. In college, Bethany served as a summer missions' intern in Mexico City. Seeing that the ABWE Mexico team had great need for teachers and church-planting assistants, she returned to Mexico City as an ABWE missionary in 2006.
The Gómezes have three kids, Tyler (12), Olivia (10), and Ezra (8), who are Mexican and American by birth, and excited to return to Mexico!
Their Ministry
We desire to see the local church grow in central Mexico through aiding Mexican partners in church-planting, outreach evangelism efforts, discipleship and assimilation of followers of Christ in the local church, and building up of more trained church leadership.
Kurt has a heart to use his pastoral calling to minister to his own people, especially seeing more autonomous churches planted across Mexico. He loves any opportunity to teach in the local church, be it with kids, teens, adults, or in his home leading a Bible study, or one on one with men in mentorship. Kurt loves making connections in the community and building relationships, with the end goal of seeing people commit their lives to Christ and grow in the local church.
Bethany has a deep passion and burden to use her gifts in the body of Christ to see more Mexicans rooted and growing in the local church. She is very passionate about women's ministry, especially teaching women to study their Bibles, growing in Christ in community together.
We see clearly that God has gifted us as a family with two languages, two nationalities, and two cultures--but most importantly: one single burden to use our lives to grow the church in Mexico. We realize we cannot do this task alone, nor should we! We seek to be ambassadors for Christ to Mexico, sent and supported by our sending church and many others in the body of Christ!
How To Get Involved
We are currently seeking to build our team of partners:
- Are you interested in seeing the body of Christ grow and thrive in Mexico--a place where God has been known through traditional religions, but few have a relationship with Jesus Christ? It wasn't that long ago in our pasts, that we were just "normal" people doing life, when someone challenged us to use our lives to present the gospel to many Mexican people who did not have that opportunity! You could do the same with your life! The ABWE Mexico team needs many members. We are seeking those interested in using any set of life skills towards church-planting, evangelism & discipleship, and leadership training.
- We also need prayer partners! Will you commit to upholding our family in prayer on a regular basis? The first church always committed the ministry to prayer, before attempting anything. We need to do the same!
- Practically, we cannot go to complete this task without many people being involved in funding this work! We realize not everyone is burdened to go to Mexico and live their lives out there, but maybe you feel burdened to give financially so that our family can serve in church-planting and local church edification in Mexico!
We would love the opportunity to talk with you about this partnership in ministry.
