Joe & Abbey Barnosky

South Africa

Meet the Barnosky family:

Joe is a nerd with a passion for media ministry. Abbey is a missionary kid with a heart for women and family ministries working with Beautiful Feet International. Both are tired of people finding the wrong answers to the right questions.

Together with their two incredible daughters, Penny and Cloe, they are relocating to Durban, South Africa, in order to multiply disciples and spread the gospel far and wide.

Joe’s Passion: Media and Technology

Most South Africans who want to know more about Christ start with two strikes against them: the blending of Christianity with cultural practices and a very prevalent prosperity gospel presence. Joe is excited to be helping churches with sound doctrine utilize technology and media to help the real gospel outshine the false teachings that have been left unchecked for too long. Equipping solid, biblical ministries with modern websites, social media plans, tools for evangelism and discipleship, and ministry support will help dedicated pastors focus on what they do best: feeding His sheep.

Abbey’s Passion: Beautiful Feet

A significant portion of South African families are in active crisis. In South Africa 24% of all pregnancies end in abortion, 42% of children are in single mother homes, 60% of pregnancies are unplanned, and as many as 70% of women have experienced sexual abuse. Abbey’s mission is to bring Beautiful Feet resources and trainings to churches, ministries, and individuals so that they have powerful Women and Family Ministries. This will help them to serve the vulnerable in their communities and bring those trapped in darkness into the light. Without the hope of Jesus, in desperation, their only option is to seek relief from the world. One family at a time, we will give them another choice.

From Local Church to Local Church

It is not a coincidence that the Barnoskys’ sending church is Horizons Church in Lost Creek, WV, whose stated mission is to “be salt and light in a dark and decaying world,” and that they just began a strategic phase of “Rebuilding the Foundations,” returning to the roots of faith and establishing a true biblical worldview for all of its members.

At the same time, Joe and Abbey began experiencing a deep burden for the need to rebuild the foundations of faith in South Africa. Working together to fulfill the Great Commission near and far is the next God-ordained step for both ministries.

With God’s leading, Horizon’s sending, and ABWE’s equipping, the Barnosky family is approaching the mission field in full confidence and hope; they just can’t do it alone. God has called the Barnoskys to go, and is calling others to partner with them physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and yes, financially. Will you be part of how the Lord will “...equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…” (Ephesians 4:11-13) in this field?

Be Part of the Mission Through:

  • Prayer Partnership - Join in a relationship of mutual encouragement and support, building each other up to serve God's kingdom purpose together. (Romans 15:30-32)
  • Financial Partnership - Those who feel called to serve but cannot go can prayerfully consider financial support, enabling the ministry to be the hands and feet of God-given resources. Together, partners can build God's kingdom on earth for eternity. (1 Corinthians 9:14)
  • Conversations, Seeking Direction - If you're unsure of your next steps in partnership, please reach out for prayer about God's will for your lives! Joe and Abbey are always happy to talk about the mission in South Africa, but even if you aren't a great fit here, they have many connections they can share as they pray with you. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
  • Sign Up For Their Newsletter - They hate spam and will never flood your inbox, but this is the best way to get regular updates from their ministries.
  • Visit Their Website - Joe and Abbey regularly post blog updates and highlight ministry focus points. This is an excellent way to get to know them more and see the direct impact they're having in Durban.
  • Pray More - In case you shrugged off the first suggestion because it's what every Christian says, go back and read it again. The power of prayer is very real, because the God who hears us is very real, and He should always be the first stop along our ways. If you never give a cent to this mission, please ask God to continue moving in Durban and the Barnoskys' ministries there. Prayer support is what's needed most!

Thank you!

No one is an island; the body of Christ does this work together. The Barnoskys simply have the opportunity to be hands and feet right now. Thank you for supporting them in any way you can!
